Tickets to Boston Ballet's annual holiday "Nutcracker," set for Nov. 25-Dec. 30 at the Opera House, go on sale next Wednesday. "The 2005 Nutcracker will include many of the much-loved elements audiences
have grown fond of over the years along with some exciting new surprises," Ballet Artistic Director Mikko Nissenen said in the announcement.
The Ballet was kicked out of the 3,600-seat Wang Center last year to make room for the Rockettes' Christmas spectacular, shrinking the production for the smaller stage of the 1,700-seat Colonial as a temporary measure. The restored, 2,500-seat Opera House should be a step back up, and since nearly a third of the Ballet's annual income is derived from "Nutcracker," the stakes for this year's production are high.
Perhaps that explains Wednesday's other plans: "To celebrate the production’s move... the Company is planning a rally at Downtown Crossing that will feature Boston Ballet dancers, Nutcracker characters - including a brief performance by the famous Nutcracker Bear - giveaways and a summer snowfall. A short time later, the Nutcracker will be on his way to Fenway Park to throw out the first pitch prior to the afternoon game between the Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. " And of course, the Duck Boats are involved...Is there no end to the madness?!
Tix, $25-$110, go on sale at the box office and Ticketmaster, including Ticketmaster.com. I'm waiting to hear back about a time, but 10 a.m. is a good guess.
