The Herald's Ted Medrek really enjoyed Boston Landmarks Orchestra's season opener Friday night, even though rain forced a move off the Common and indoors to the Church of the Covenant on Newbury Street. The highlight of the program was to be Gustav Holst's "The Planets," and Medrek says the performance delighted the audience. But what delighted Medrek most was local composer Thomas Oboe Lee's "Pluto" movement, commissioned by the orchestra to recognize a planet that hadn't been discovered in Holst's day. "It had a more modern sensibility and, frankly, a
bit more musical depth than its illustrious predecessor. It made me
wonder what Lee might come up with for a planet cycle all his own," Medrek writes. Click on his name to check Lee's personal web site - he's a pretty interesting guy. The Landmarks performance is to be repeated tonight - at Parkman Bandstand on the Common, weather permitting.
