Cinderella and Englebert Humperdinck are among those whose schedules have fallen victim to last night's fire at the North Shore Music Theatre. The fire started after 11 p.m. on Thursday, apparently due to an accidental electrical problem, and caused heat, smoke and water damage, according to NSMT. As a result, the production of "Cinderella," which opened on Tuesday and was scheduled to run through July 31, is now closed. An email from NSMT says the show will be rescheduled for next year.
Also going up in flames: August dates for Humperdinck, "ABBA Gold," Kenny Rogers, Charlie Daniels and the Beach Boys. Again, NSMT says they'll be rescheduled, but it's not clear when. Children's musicals "Rapunzel," "Super Scientific Circus" and "Peter and the Wolf" will either be rescheduled or canceled. But Summer Stages programs and workshops for children will continue in the Theatre Arts building. NSMT says it plans to reopen Aug. 23 with the new musical "Abyssinia."
Whatever the insurance situation, NSMT will no doubt pay a heavy price for the fire. And so the first option listed for ticketholder is: "Donate the full value of your ticket back to NSMT, and receive a tax deduction for the face value of the tickets. Your support would be greatly appreciated at this time." You can also exchange your tix for another performance or get a full refund. In any case, "please bring your tickets to the box office at 62 Dunham Rd. Beverly after July 18, or call the Box Office (978)232-7200 after July 18, or mail your tickets to NSMT, PO Box 62, Beverly, MA 01915."
