HubArts readers were especially exercised about that stupid "Bewitched" statue that went up in Salem. Today on the Globe's Op-Ed page, H.D.S. Greenway weighs in, somewhat belatedly, on the Salem kitsch question. Doesn't seem to have strong feelings one way or the other, actually. ... Steve Morse says the Pops Fourth is gonna be "one funky hoedown." And Richard Dyer weighs in, agains somewhat belatedly, on the recycling of tracks for the Pops' "America" album, which was reported in the Herald weeks ago. ... Maureen Dezell's theater notes include interesting bits on Ronan Noone and the Double Edge Theatre way up in Ashfield.
In the Herald, Terry Byrne spotlights the nitty gritty work of an acting career in Boston at the StageSource auditions. ... Sean McCarthy has a blurb on local hip-hoppers 3 4 Da Stripes, who have a gig tonight in Newton. ... And dance critic Tedd Bale previews a world premiere at Jacob's Pillow.
But the best arts story this morning is Cate McQuaid's Globe feature on a Providence artist planning a very large, very Patriotic knitting project up at Mass MOCA this weekend. McQuade definitely has the lede of the day: "If Betsy Ross and John Deere had a love child, it would be artist Dave Cole."
