First and foremost, read this terrific story in Globe North about the film festival in Newburyport this weekend. ... Both papers reviewed Jimmy Tingle's new one-man show, "Jimmy Tingle's American Dream," at his theater in Davis Square. The Globe's Katie Johnston Chase liked Tingle's biting wit a lot despite finding him sometimes "corny" and "disjointed." The Herald's Sean McCarthy liked the atmosphere of a "joking confessional." While Chase seems to focus more on the political material, McCarthy notes the more personal and local. ... In the Globe, Steve Morse has a nice piece on the "backyard barbecue" atmosphere at the Boston Music Awards last night. Nothing I can find in the Herald - odd since the tab was a sponsor and its web site counted the votes. If I've missed it, let me know. ... Couple of good theater stories in the Herald. Terry Byrne talks to Alvin Epstein about playing King Lear for the Actors Shakespeare Project, and Bob Nesti advances the bad-girl noir "Pulp: A Play with Music," at the BCA's Black Box Theatre.
