A memorial service for jazzman Herb Pomeroy - rather, "in celebration of Herb Pomeroy's life and work" - is set for 3 p.m. Sunday at Emmanuel Chruch, Newbury and Arlington Streets in Boston. Trumpeter Pomeroy died at home in Gloucester in August at age 77, having played with just about everyone from Charlie Parker to Frank Sinatra to Ornette Coleman. But his greatest legacy may be as a jazz educator at Berklee, MIT and the New England Conservatory. The best appreciation of his life I've read, by Bryan Marquard of the Globe, is here.
