Gardner Museum director marries - and there's an exhibit tie-in!

Ahawley_ugauchat_dec07_photo_by_bet Talk about going the extra mile. This past Saturday, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum Director Anne Hawley married Urs Peter Gauchat, Professor and Dean of the School of Architecture at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, at Hawley's home in Brookline. And the couple will celebrate tonight with...wait for it... a "Special Exhibition Preview/Media Photo Op"for the exhibit "The Triumph of Marriage."

The happy couple will be toasted at the event, which kicks off an exhibit exploring the elegant painting on Renaissance-era Italian "cassoni," large marriage chests featured in bridal processions and often permanently displayed by, um, other happy couples. The exhibit features fifteen cassoni paintings, including the Gardner’s own "Triumphs of Petrarch" by Pesselino.

Picture of the happy couple from a December 2007 event, by Bethany Versoy via the museum.
