Celebrated street artist Shepard Fairey - scroll down for our coverage of his opening at the ICA this week - was arrested on his way to DJ at the museum last night. I've been thinking about this all day: Fairey has been around and very public all week, with many scheduled events, so someone must have serious beef with him to wait all week and then bust him right before his DJ gig for 750 people who paid money to be there. The warrants - for tagging around town - were issued Jan. 24, sez the Globe. But enforced Friday night. Is this cops still pissed at the Mooninite people getting even with the art world? Geoff thinks it's generalized hostility to public art, maybe. Dunno, but no way is it "gee the paperwork on the warrants just came through." Someone was making a point.
