Worcester's Foothills Theatre Company has joined the "give us money fast or we'll close our doors" mode. The company sent out an email Friday warning of its "financial crisis" and saying that it needs $100,000 in the next few days and another $100,000 soon or it's adios. "Ticket sales are lagging, Foundation support is not available because of the Stock Market decline, and corporate sponsorships have been reduced," the missive said. "We have now reached the point where we are at rock bottom and have exhausted all other appeals with the exception of approaching the public directly to keep our theatre alive. Unless we are able to raise a significant amount of money within the next few days, we have no other option but to cease our operation...a prospect that no one relishes."
If you're holding tickets, the company says it will finish out its run of "Rainmaker" (right) this weekend - and how ironic is that scheduling - but goes on: "To be perfectly honest the situation is dire. We need to raise approximately $100,000 between now and the beginning of next week in order to continue producing The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" which opens soon. "Once that has happened we will need to raise another $100,000 to finish out our current season. If we can successfully finish out through You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, then we will need to raise an additional $200,000 to make next season a reality."
