Berklee alum ('62) and retired faculty member Gary Burton will have a new album out May 26 from Concord Jazz. "Quartet Live!" finds him onstage in Oakland with two members of the Gary Burton Quartet from the old days - bassist Steve Swallow, a founding member back in '67, and guitarist Pat Metheny, who joined up in the early 70s, at age 19. (Burton helped Metheny get a job on Berklee's faculty at about the same time.) Rounding out the lineup that toured in 2006-08 is drummer Antonio Sanchez, from Metheny's band. Metheny, Swallow and Burton are also represented as composers on the 11-track album, along with Keith Jarrett, Carla Bley and Duke Ellington. The foursome will be back on the road in the U.S. and Canada this year. (Above, Burton and band in '68.)
