To me, the whole idea of a Bill Maher-Ann Coulter event with tix up to $200 is an unadulterated horror, a capsule of everything that's wrong with the political media these days. I'm not the only one who felt that way in advance. But if you must read a review of the "debate," try this blogger's take - I don't agree with his conclusion (roughly: gosh they're good entertainers) but his reporting of the event itself is funny. ... A nice Globe piece on the Dropkick Murphys in advance of their annual St. Patrick's homestand, which begins tomorrow. ... I love U2, but they're as brilliant hypsters as they are musicians. People are freaking out over seeing them at the Somerville Theatre, and they're going to play four songs? And those will probably be from their so-so new album? And some state rep is going to give them a proclamation from the statehouse for it? Yes, Rep. Denise Provost (D-Somerville), that's really what we want our elected officials spending time on these days, what with the gas tax debate and the economy and everything. ... On the other hand, kudos to Martin Murphy, who named his Davis Square bar the Joshua Tree a dozen years ago. Talk about luck of the Irish. ... A visit with Hamilton teen comedian Bo Burnham is here.
