I just got around to the Times and came across this story: "Selling parts of a collection to cover museum operating costs would be illegal under a bill introduced in the New York State Legislature late Tuesday afternoon." "These collections were not created as reservoirs of capital to be used for the benefits of the institution," said the legislator who drew up the bill. In fact, the decision by Brandeis to close the Rose Museum and consider selling the collection was one of the motivating factors in creation of the bill. Wonder if there are any fans of the Rose on Beacon Hill?

Interesting idea. While I don't think Rose should be able to sell priceless historic relics, I do believe museums need to stay open (as they a great educational resource).
One possible solution would be to determine beforehand which pieces would be "expendable" without lessening the educational value of the museum.
I would like to see museum artifacts sold as a Last resort. Selling off pieces of history meant for the public's enlightenment is not the direction I'd like museums to go.
Let's hope it doesn't get to this point.

Hi. Speak when you are angry-and you will make the best speech you'll ever regret. Help me! Can not find sites on the: Daily show jim cramer interview. I found only this - jim Cramer personal. On last night mad money, Jim Cramer said healthcare stocks are poised to move higher now that obama has officially unveiled his sweeping. Either cover an issue of interest, or general politics. THX ;-), Bancroft from Cape.
