I'm looking forward to the dual exhibition Gridwork: Further Explorations into the Urban Landscape, opening Thursday at the Copley Society, 158 Newbury St. Kinda tony part of the urban landscape for artists like Robert Maloney and Sean Thomas, who come at the same topic from different angles. Judging only from the jpegs, Maloney's multimedia work tends to the layered, exploring what happens to bright new components of the cityscape as they weather over time. Thomas' paintings of simple urban icons like cranes and parked cars get more complicated as a sort of sea fog seems to seep in around them. Maloney is JP and Mass Art; Thomas is a RISD grad and lives in Providence. Thursday's 5:30 opening reception is open to the public and free to members, but $10 for non-members. There's also an artist talk June 6 at 4 p.m. Details here.
