Thinking of all my Globe friends this morning staring a 23% pay cut in the eye. Looks like a lot of them were up late delivering gallows humor on Facebook. I think Adam Gaffin Adam Reilly has it right when he says the Times bosses blew it - a little more empathy might have won the day. And I'm wondering who were the 20 percent who didn't vote. Well over 100 Guild members didn't participate in a vote that was decided by a margin of 12. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't wondering too what all this will do to my trickle of Globe freelance income. And the big picture continues to darken. One of those who was up late blogged in the wee hours that he was glad to read this ArtsJournal piece by Regina Hackett that suggests arts writing has relocated. Well, amen to that, and uh, please click on our advertisers over there on the right ===>. But the Hackett piece is also about what is lost when newspaper coverage fades away and your arts news is delivered by blogs like this one. It's a self-selecting audience: "A street sweeper on coffee break will not happen upon a leftover copy of this blog and be drawn into a review."
