Joe Pernice will play two shows at the Brattle Theatre in Cambridge on Aug. 5 as part of an 11-city mini-tour in support of an album of cover songs. The album, "It Feels So Good When I Stop (Novel Soundtrack)," is - duh - the soundtrack to his first novel, "It Feels So Good When I Stop," due out Aug. 6 from Riverhead. The novel, set on the Cape, is a coming of age thingie that also seems to involve the performing and recording of music; the album includes songs mentioned in the book, including "Chevy Van," "Hello It's Me" and "I'm Your Puppet." There's also one original, called "Black Smoke (No Pope)," performed in the book by a fictional outfit called Young Accuser. And this fictional band will also be releasing a real EP on the real Sub Pop, which I'm guessing is Pernice on the mic again, but I can't really say for sure, because the blog post and press release from our friends at Ashmont Records get a little, mmmm, meta. Anyhoo, World Music is promoting the shows, and you can get tix here, beginning Friday. You can pre-order the book here.
