Company One's 11th season will feature two world premieres and three New England premieres, plus the return of "The Superheroine Monologues" as a second stage production. No ticket info yet from the company, currently getting good reviews with "After The Quake." Read on for details.
The Main Stage shows, at the BCA Plaza Theatre, are:
- "The Overwhelming" by J.T. Rogers ("Madagascar"), in a New England premiere directed by Company One Artistic Director Shawn LaCount. A writer takes his family to Rwanda to work on a book, just before genocide engulfs the country. Oct. 30-Nov. 21.
- "The Good Negro," by Tracey Scott Nelson, a New England premiere. A fictionalized tale of the civil rights movement on the hostile ground of Birmingham, Ala. in the 1960s. Jan. 15-Feb. 6, 2010.
- "The Emancipation of Mandy and Miss Ellie," by Lois Roach. World premiere. Slavery is the topic of a production that also features music and dance. April 30-May 22, 2010.
- "Grimm," a world premiere collection of short plays inspired by the Grimm Brothers fairy tales, by a troupe of Boston writers including Lydia R. Diamond and Ronan Noone. July 16-Aug. 14, 2010.
Second stage shows: include a revamped version of "Superheroine Monologues" by Jon Kuntz and Rick Park; wacky comedy in "Christmas Belles"; the New England premiere of "Apple," by Canadian playwright Vern Thiessen; and the return of ARTiculation, "a poetry slam turned performance piece." "Superheroine" and "ARTiculation" are at the BCA Plaza, the others at the Boston Playwrights Theatre.
