I'll spare you the wordplay on "American Pie" lyrics - if only the press release writer had done the same - but it's worth noting that Don McLean, the best-selling singer-songwriter of the early '70s will headline an Oct. 3 benefit for
The Center for the Arts in Natick. The man who lodged "American Pie," "Vincent" and one or two others in our collective brain will be backed up by a crack band of Nashville session guys for this rare show in the 280-seat hall. It's TCAN's biggest fundraiser of the year, and tickets are $100, $150 if you want to meet McLean over Champagne and desserts after the show. Tix: call Laura Steele at 508-497-0097 x205; or stop by the Firehouse at 14 Summer Street in Natick, MA from noon-6 pm. weekdays; or click to www.natickarts.org/tickets. And by the way, if you're not into McLean's folkie approach, guitar wizard Adrian Belew (Talking heads, Bowie, King Crimson) is at TCAN tonight. Tix are $36 for non-members.
