For all of us who aren't going to invest in a subscription, single tickets to Boston Lyric Opera's four-production season are now on sale. For starters that means the BLO's new production of Bizet's "Carmen" Nov. 6-17. It's "a fresh, psychological approach" reintroducing dialogue specified by the composer that's often replaced or omitted. It stars starring Dana Beth Miller and John Bellemer, with the orchestra conducted by the Pops' Keith Lockhart. Also on tap: BLO's new Opera Annex offers Britten's "The Turn of the Screw" Feb. 3, 5, 6, 2010 at The Castle at Boston Park Plaza Hotel & Towers; Strauss' "Ariadne auf Naxos" March 12-23, 2010, the North American premiere of acclaimed Welsh National Opera production; and Mozart's "Idomeneo, re di Creta" April 23-May 4, 2010, also a new BLO production. Most performances come with free prepartory lectures on the music and characters one hour before showtime. Tix range from $34-$140 and are available via
blo.org or 866-348-9738. (Pic: a set piece for "Carmen.")
