WGBH FM 89.7 goes all news and talk tomorrow, following final approval of its purchase of WCRB FM 99.5 from Nassau Broadcasting. WGBH's new schedule is here; new daytime talk shows for Emily Rooney and Callie Crossley will take over the noon and 1 p.m slots beginning in January. Most
important around HubArts HQ, jazz with "Eric in the Evening" will
continue Mon-Thurs.
Meanwhile, the station they're now branding as "All Classical 99.5" picks up WGBH's classical programming load. The new, non-commercial 99.5 schedule is here, although expect that to continue getting tweaked. The deal has been a big topic of discussion here and elsewhere, as some WGBH classical fans worry about WCRB's signal strength, while others expect an improvement in WCRB's "dumbed-down" programming. Let us know what you think tomorrow.

Radiolab is good but they only make a few each season. The rest looks pretty dull.
Here are some suggestions for different shows I listen to in podcast:
Wiretap from the CBC (actually this isn't podcast -- but it was a good, non-formulaic version of this american life)
Ideas from the CBC
Jefferson Hour
In our time from the BBC
that Christopher Lydon show.
Studio 360 is ok for arts programming, and truthfully it's only bearable because of the host, the arts they cover are pretty terrible. Most other arts radio is just awful -- audio charity cases -- I can't believe there's going to be hours of arts and ideas every day.
Finally 60% is the same as WBUR (which is pretty boring now.) Diane Rehm is not really listenable I'm sorry to say and her shows are Washington-centered un-speech and de-information.
