The Boston Gay Men's Chorus will sing for marriage equality on March 27 at 8:00 pm and March 28 at 3:00 pm at New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall. The centerpiece of the concert is Mark Koval’s 35-minute “We The People,” a multimedia exploration of the movement for marriage equality. Written for chorus, narrator, six cellos and piano, the 2005 piece tackles political and religious intolerance. Koval (left) has been working with the BGMC to update it to tell of the success of marriage in Massachusetts. John Kuntz will narrate both performances, and Rep. Mike Capuano will also be featured on Sunday; anotehr pol is being sought for the Saturday night show.Neil Donohoe, director of the theater division at Boston Conservatory will stage direct.
It tells you something about our times that these concerts are supported in part by Bank of America, Stop & Shop, Reproductive Science Center, Tufts Health Plan, and Yale Appliance. But BGMC music director Reuben Reynolds says, “Living here in Massachusetts it is very easy to become complacent about marriage equality. ... Given the recent setbacks in Maine and elsewhere, we want to lift our voices to tell our fellow citizens that marriage equality has been a positive experience here.”
