There's a new grassroots campaign starting every 10 seconds for something. But this one is worth a look. A bunch of Berklee students are trying to get faculty members Jetro da Silva, a pianist, and Donna McElroy, a singer, on the entertainment menu for Barack Obama's inauguration with their version of "America The Beautiful." Check out their performance from the 2004 inauguration of Berklee President Roger Brown:
These being eyes-on-the-prize Berklee students, they're running this campaign out of Prof. Stephanie Kellar's marketing class. They want you to leave comments in support on their YouTube page. They're also using email, social networking, public relations, phone, and word-of-mouth efforts to draw attention to the video. Not to mention the Berklee PR staff, who emailed me.
I emailed Prof. Kellar for some details on how it all got started...
She wrote: "This is the cooperative effort of two Principle of Marketing
sections, about 50 kids. I'm their teacher. The class is a requirement of
the Music Business / Management major. The inaugural pitch is in addition
to the semester-long project the kids are already doing (a marketing plan
for Cafe 939) so no, they didn't need something to market, but saw an
opportunity, assessed capabilities, assets, and necessary steps, then dove
right in. They felt the performance was world-class and stood for
everything the college and Obama is about, plus really liked a rare chance
to support faculty who support them every day.
"I'd shown them the video earlier in the Fall (my intro was: if anyone ever
asks why you chose Berklee, show them this video.) When Obama won, we
thought it was a natural fit since it is a traditional anthem that was
performed at Roger Brown's inauguration as president of Berklee in 2004...
"In all, it's a chance for them to actually execute a plan versus just
write one, and it's an enactment of "shoot for the moon, even if you fall
short you'll land among the stars" mentality. Meaning, even if we didn't
get the nod, we could share the performance with the world and that was a
very good thing too."
There's been a formal application to the inaugural committee, which is supposed to announce the performers in about two weeks. Perhaps the students are savvy enough to reach out through their congressional delegation and Friend of Barack Gov. Deval Patrick, too. We'll let you know what happens.
I’ll freely admit that I don’t know exactly when the Louis Vuitton Damier Neverfull came out. I remember it was still hotly anticipated the last time. and sometime between then and now, it showed up on eLuxury as a new arrival. And you know what? I love it. It’s not as obvious as Louis Vuitton’s monogram version, but it’s still insanely practical, simple, and chic. It’s a big that can be used year-round for years to come, and in an uncertain economy, longevity of a bag’s design is something that’s on the minds of more and more people. We all know that Vuitton’s canvas wears like few other materials, and a bicolor material like Damier can be paired with a variety of clothing choices. For maximum versatility, I’d go with the MM - not too big, not too small, perfect for lots of uses. Buy through eLuxury for Retail Price: $139.80 Wholesale Price: $118.80
