The week's big news in Boston arts was a pact between the Huntington Theatre Company and the developers who'll be taking over the block of Huntington Avenue where the BU Theatre sits, a pact that will allow the company to stay. Mayor Marty Walsh came to make the announcement to applause and cheers from a couple of hundred people including a number from other theater companies. The HTC will have to raise $60+ million for renovation of the theater and adjacent space to the west, while the developer builds a new mixed-up high rise to the east. Details here in my story for BU Today, although the second-most applause came when Huntington Managing Director Michael Maso said there will be more women's restrooms when the project is finished. At BU, meanwhile, we'll spend the $25M from the sale of the theater to build a new theater complex on Commonwealth Avenue, right across from the College of Fine Arts.
